Pack Priority

I clutch my pillow to my chest, standing in Adrian’s doorway. He sits at his computer, scouring over the screen like whatever it is he works on can’t wait until morning. I shift on my feet, anxious for no other reason than not being able to sleep.

“Is it okay if I sleep in here?” I press my lips together, wondering why I’m suddenly nervous. “I just—I don’t know what’s wrong with me.”

Adrian stands from his desk and holds his arms open. “You never have to ask. I was hoping you’d come to me tonight. You never have to sleep alone again if that’s what you want. Your personal space is for your comfort. As for mine? I don’t want personal space. I want you.”

My heart flutters with his words, and I bury my nose against the soft cotton of his pajama shirt. He scoops me up in silence, pressing his lips to mine. I devour his affection, his closeness easing the strange worry tightening my chest. I know my body is supposed to be a bit out of control now, but it’s worse than ever. I’ve only allowed myself to have my first heat and skipped my second. It was too terrible going through it alone that I didn’t want to experience it that way again.

Adrian sets me on his bed, and I automatically bury my face in his pillow, inhaling a breath of his scent that I can’t get enough of. I don’t know what it is about his bed, but exhaustion tries to take me out even though my mind spins wildly.

I yawn and stretch my arms over my head. “Come lay with me.”

Adrian rubs his hand across my leg, adjusting the blanket on my body. “Just give me one minute. I need to finish up an email and then I will join you.”

I puff out my bottom lip. I probably look pathetic, but I can’t help it. He’s so close to me. All I want is for him to hop in the bed and wrap me in his arms.

“If you’re not going to join her this second, then I will. She looks like she might start whining like the sexy, needy woman I love. Isn’t that right, dirty girl? Adrian should get detention or some shit for asking you to wait even a minute.” Leo grins at me from the open door, standing in only a pair of boxer-briefs. Where Adrian is more modest, Leo would walk around the manor naked if his pack mates wouldn’t mind. They do it for the staff, mostly.

I laugh and wiggle my fingers. “Maybe if you do, Adrian will join us faster. I wouldn’t mind being sandwiched between the both of you. I’m a bit cold. Shivering.” I force my body to tremble, faking being cold.

“Come on in, Leo. I’m assuming you weren’t just looking to interrupt my night with Scarlett.” Adrian kisses the top of my head and crosses his arms over his chest, remaining serious.

Leo strides through the room and hops on the bed, pulling me into his arms and making me giggle.
